The Loves of Kevin Manganaro: A Triptych.

On this rainy, vile Thursday (see above), I can only muster up love and respect for three things in this filthy world:

Yesterday, my delicious co-blogger turned 26 years Irish. She is one of the greast ladies of all time, and she's promised me that her Special Day would be marked by cucumber mojitos. Truly, this is all I could have asked for and more- Love you, Leighthal.

I went with about 50 of my closest coworkers to see the Broadway musical adaptation of the Reese Witherspoon vehicle last night, and IT IS COLOSSAL. Oh my god- So fun. So, so fun. No one should be able to graduate from law school or acting school until they see this show. Seriously amazingly fun. And it's the first show I've ever seen that lets the dogs bow!! (Suck it, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!!) Highly recommended.

Thanks to my iPod's beautiful shuffle, I have been reminded that this is one of the greatest rock albums ever. Ann Wilson, sing me a dream.

If I can muster up love for any other things today, I'll let you know. Don't count on it, though.

XOXO KEVIN.

"Good News for People Who Like Bad News"

A Crazy person is loose on Capitol Hill. STABBING PEOPLE. And he's doing it within a half mile radius of my home and place of work. Serial Stabber. Um, terrified much???
This weekend the fam was in town, and we went out to Maryland to visit my uncle. His cat just had kittens. Looking at this picture of two of them attacking my father's shoes makes me feel a smidge better about the whole crazy guy with a knife thing... so fluffy and cute. I don't really even like cats...

Easter Weekend Re-cap

While Leigh is getting a snowy DC weekend with her awesome parents, I had several social/theatrical commitment, plus plans with my mother. In the interest of trying to make this post (which is ostensibly a lame run-down of shit I did over the past few days) at least somewhat entertaining, and being the arbiter of cultural taste and discernment that I am, I won't prattle on and on with detailed descriptions of things. Bullet Notes are the way to go. Always.

  • FROST/NIXON (Broadway) Uuummm... Kinda really, really good. Stellar performances, even if the big dramatic moment involves the conceit that former United States President Richard M. Nixon is a drunk dialer.
  • MARISSA HANSSON (Friend) Thoroughly badass.
  • PIGALLE (Brunch w/ my grandmother) Eggs florentine= Heaven.
  • INHERIT THE WIND (Broadway) Good-ish. But there's an old-timey, O Brother!-style gospel band, complete with an autoharp and a banjo. I was floored.
  • COLORING EGGS WITH MY MOTHER (Tradition) The red was pathetic and runny, but the blue was sterling and stylish. (Read into this post what political analogies you will.)
  • HAPPY FEET (2006 Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature) Oh my god. Best movie in years!! I'm sincerely looking forward to showing it to my kids some day. Also, everything the Christians said about this movie is true- It sincerely is an allegory for raising gay kids. It even has a standard "Don't ask me to change, Pa!" scene. Amazing. Touching. And Prince songs!! Yes!!
  • GUITAR (Mine) I got one. I can play a few notes, and in about six months I should be working my way up to a chord. I will be a rock god in no time.

Anyway, that's that. I hope you all ascended into the clouds, or whatever Middle Ages nonsense this weekend was supposed to commemorate. Love y'all!!

xoxo KEVIN.

PS- Photos of the eggs I dyed with my mother will be added later. I'm sure you can't wait.

Holiday Remembrance.

At this blessed time of year; I'd like all of you take a moment on Sunday and reflect about what is truly important
I'm talking of course; about sugar coated marshmallow in the shapes of chicks and bunnies. PEEPS.
Ever wonder what to do with your leftover Easter Candy?

Is It OK If I Quit Over This?

I work in a room with three other people, and out of the four of us, I am the only one who acknowledges the existence of global warming.

I feel like I want to cry and throw up and the same time.

KEVIN.

...Zum Geburtstag!

Today, Ladies and Germs, marks the 26th anniversary of the birth of my dear friend Paul. Paul and I met while we were studying abroad together in Deutschland, and we have been ripping it up here on capitol hill for years now. Please note the photo. It is our joint birthday cake from "Paul and Leigh's 50th Birthday" party of '06. That party is famous for this cake, which looks to be made of jello; but is infact mostly vodka. Clearly, Paul and I get along for a reason. Happy Birthday Leibchen!

Sounds like someone has a case of The Mondays...

For everyone else out there who is already knee-deep in TPS reports...
(seriously, how is it only Monday?)
Iconis Brothers + Camera =

And this is here, just because it ALWAYS makes me laugh. By the way, did anyone see "Blades of Glory"? was it good?

A Lady We Love

A certain goddess and (for obvious reasons) loved one of this blog got a shout-out in The Nation's Greatest Local Newspaper this weekend. And for once it wasn't on the crime blotter! Zing!

CHECK IT.

I'm thrilled to report that I'll be Ms. Leigh's plus-on to this black tie event, which means- Tux rental time. Do y'all like this one or this one? I want one like this, I think. Yeah.

XOXO (and mad props to Mama Somerville!!!)
