Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

So easy in fact, that I think Kevin and I managed to forget we had a blog to attend to.
In the words of my dear friend Kathleen: "I am stressed out enough by that mutt Lohan's latest escapades. Not the blog, don't take that away." Sorry kids. I'll try not to let it happen it again.
Kevin is off frolicing on the sandy shores of North Carolina, so its up to me to hold down the fort until his return.
Of Note:
1.Being fat is apparently a communicable disease. Crap. I guess no one should come over here, because there are totally Milanos and cheese puffs in my cabinet. (Don't worry-the Coke is diet)

2. Harry Potter. SO GOOD. 759 pages of perfection. It was so fast paced! So rewarding! I'm only sad because it's over. I guess I have to go back to reading grown up books now. Next up: Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns or I could finally finish Obama. We'll see. Reading literature takes a back seat to reading essays these days.
3. Cinema. I have been on like, a 2 month strech of not being disappointed by film. Being back in New York means seeing more movies, so statistically, I should be runnng into some bad ones. Not happening. From Knocked Up all the way to Hairspray. Good job 2007. Jason Bourne- don't dissappoint me. You represent the only action franchise in my dvd collection.
4. Lindsay. I think the label "hot mess" no longer applies. I think it's just "mess" now. I'm going to leave you with a picture that is better to look at than that horrid mugshot. We gotta support Strong Island -no matter how bad it looks. Think good thoughts?

Fête de la Fédération!

As per usual, Kevin n' Kate threw yet another kick-ass theme party last weekend. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun honoring the storming of The Bastile....

Get a Haircut and Get a Real Job!

Since I already aquired the later- I figured it was time for the former. it's official : I have no hair. And I like it.

(Note my snarky expression: I think it's the new do. Bobs give you attitude.)
Sidebar: Attn: New York- Last night Kevin n' Kate brought me to a bar which offers both Skeeball and FREE PIZZA. That's right. For every drink you order you are entitled to an entire FREE freshly baked personal pizza. I don't don't how the whole city hasn't stormed this place. (sorry the link looks messy- Macs are funny) Crocdile Lounge. GO. NOW.

The 2007 Freddie Mercury Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Last night, Roommate and I took in a bombastic concert at Webster Hall- Maximo Park, the irrepresably romatic and rowdy British band that we first saw something like two years ago at Bowery Ballroom. Upon second viewing, I'm not only ready to proclaim them one of the top ten live acts in the world, but I'm ready to enshrine frontman Paul Smith into the Freddie Mercury Hall of Fame (which exists only in my own mind). Fronting a rock band is serious work, and living up to the gold standard of perfection (aka, Freddie M. himself) deserves special recognition.

So congrats, Paul Smith (bythewayyou'resohotohmygodmarrymeaaaaaaa). You're joining such illustrious company as Mick Jagger, Debbie Harry, Joan Jett, Billie Joe Armstrong, Chrissie Hynde, and Brandon Flowers. So rock on. And keep doing onstage splits. And wearing shirts that slow your arms. All of the above are good.
xoxo KEVIN.

Since U Been Gone...

Yeah, wow. We've been away for a while. Sorry, guys! We've been crazy busy. (Leigh's all employed and stuff! Yay!) I mean, I could go into all these mundane descriptions about what we've been up to over these past few weeks- which would probably be unforgiveably boring- OR if it's true that a picture is worth a thousand words, I could spin you the following 18,000-word yarn...

Aaaahh, it all comes down to pink wood. Doesn't it always?

XOXO,
K+L=B.

We know we've been away for a while. SORRY! Times is hard, sir. Times is hard.

We'll be back real soon with lots of fun updates (and SOOOO many photos), but for right now, my computer is being heinous.

So enjoy this.

XOXO KEVIN (and Leigh.)

In the name of love...

This Sunday everyone was showing their Pride.
After a lovely brunch, (which featured a table across from Jon Stewart- being a super attentive, adoring father-aww) we went our seperate ways...
The boys went off to celebrate their love of...well, boys. They attended the parade in high spirits and unplanned yet strikingly similar ensembles:

Meanwhile, Kate and I had other plans. We showed our love of Brooklyn by attending a street fair featuring a cheese eating contest, Marty Markowitz, and food that came on sticks...

I see 'em...

I see your dang True Colors.

I'm sorry it's been so long since Monday, when I saw the epic, life-changing True Colors Tour at Radio City, and I haven't spoken about the experience. I've been trying to organize my thoughts. It was a lot to process, believe me. I had the privilege of attending with my dear, beloved friends Matt and Nick. It was really, sincerely a lovely event.

OK, so let's go in order of performance...

THE GOSSIP. I have died and gone to queer-punk-disco heaven. I just can't even process how much Beth Ditto's "Hi, I'm a male, homeless version of Janis Joplin" voice wrecks me. She wore this purple pleather dress that gave her rolls in every conceiveable place. She's the hotness. I'm obsessed. So check it: The Gossip, following their spectacular performance, was having a meet-and-sign in the downstairs lounge, so I went down, got their CD, complimented them, etc. They are literally Garbage Pail Kids. Scabs. Little bits of paper stuck to them. Sweat. Dirt. Yay!! Love 'em!!

THE DRESDEN DOLLS. Uuumm, I kind of don't get it.

DEBBIE HARRY. The clear winner, surprisingly, for "Most Controversial True Colors Tour Appearance," she didn't hew to traditional Blondie crowd-pleasin' classics, and instead opted for her past and present solo material. (Note to disappointed gays: She's appearing as herself, not as Blondie. You wouldn't expect any of the other acts to sing Blondie songs, so leave her alone. Also, if you're a real fan of someone, you don't go see them just to hear shit you already know. Suck it.) Her dancing skills are truly badass.

ERASURE: Oh motherfucker, hold me. Magic. Dancey, insane magic. Spectaaaaaacular back-up singers. "A Little Respect" was a bombastic crowd-pleaser.

CYNDI LAUPER: The lady of the hour opened her set with "Hole In My Heart (That Goes All the Way To China)," which is SO fucking obscure and amazing, and naturally is a favorite of mine. She sang this song wearing a Pride flag version of one of those rice paddy farmer hats. I was BLOWN AWAY when she launched into "Goones R Good Enough"- She never, never sings it. Ever. It was just for me. It was a gift. And then she dedicated "I'm Gonna Be Strong" to her late aunt, who had passed away the night before. Shifting between hilarious and touching, Cyndi was... Ugh, just the best. Better than usual. Perfection.

I am full and pride. Really and truly, have a smashing PRIDE everyone!!

xoxo KEVIN.

Joe-verheard In New York...

Dunkin' Donuts throughout the city can be locales full of magic, deliciousness, and occasionally great humor. That's what Joe- longtime friends of this blog and roving reporter on the coffee/whiskey beat- discovered while in a Manhattan Dunkin' Donuts this weekend.

Joe's report:

A VERY THIN MAN, to his very thin man friend: "I mean I thought James was gonna Pass Out. I mean, he couldn't even sit up straight in one of those fabulously upholstered high-back chairs."

Wait, and now: "I know NOTHING about him. All I know is, he did a bump of coke and a swallow of Bailey's and helped me buy tickets to the Flamenco Festival."

Happy Pride, everyone.

xoxo KEVIN.

PS- Speaking of Pride, the True Colors Tour is happening tonight. TONIGHT!! I may pee myself. A full report will come tomorrow.
