I have two words: JACK NASTY.

Monday, March 6th, 2006.

Another Oscar season has come and gone, and there's always that definite let-down after the Big Night, for those of us who salivate over show business awards year-round. Inevitably, something doesn't go the way you'd like, etc., and that's a sad thing. Not a major thing, but a sad thing nonetheless.

Last night, however, was not just "a sad thing." This wasn't a case of a Seabiscuit-style upset for Best Picture. This is not a case of what people voted FOR. It's what they voted AGAINST. Simply put, this is homophobia of the worst kind, and it's a crying fucking shame. No movie that has ever amassed such a critical and popular support- not to mention Best Picture honors from every association out there, the highest gross of all the BP candidates, and the highest number of nominations- and then failed to take the top prize. The best equivalent would be if "Schindler's List" had lost. Can imagine how that would have gone over? Fucking riots in the streets. Which is what we all should be doing.

I am so fucking disappointed in this world. The gay community is such a trusting, open-hearted one (It took me years to figure that out, but it's the truth), and like so many on the left, when we feel like we're making progress, we stop trying. Because we're trusting, hopeful people. And that's what happened here. We saw this amazing, life-changing vehicle of a movie come into the country and change people hearts and minds... I *truly* believe that that happened. And now, clearly, we see that it's not enough. We'll just need to keep pushing for what's right, with or without the help of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

Jack Nicholson is so not invited to gay fucking wedding.

Kevin.
