Random Thoughts: 1/9/07

Hiya Kids.
Sorry I've been absent from the blogosphere as of late; I was busying ringing in the 2008 in the district. It was a lovely time filled with friends, pocket-door dance parties, arthritis inducing Nintendo battles, and me spending a lot of quality time at the Dupont Manor.
1. Regardless of your views on who won the New Hampshire and Iowa primaries, more people turned out to vote in them than in the last 3 election cycles. Good News.
2. Have you seen the preview for that Jessica Alba movie The Eye ? Aside from looking heinous, it's totally a rip-off of what I'm sure is the far superior Blink featuring a blind Madeline Stowe receiving an eye transplant. Does anyone else remember that movie?
3. Coke Zero was named one of the "Hottest Products of 2007" I couldn't agree more. I loves me some coke zero. I understand some of you don't get it- in the words of the Gayrab " I want my diet soda to taste metallic, that's how i know it's diet!" but I still think there is one Coke product the world could do without.
4. This season of Project Runway truly had not captured my affection as much as its predecessors- until last week. Hershey's Challenge? Excellent! I'd like to say, for the record, I think Jillian was robbed. EDIBLE CORSET made of Twizzlers people! hello!:

Alright, that's enough. I have to take advil before my novocaine wears off. A word of advice from your friend Leigh: Floss your teeth like 20 times a day. OR ELSE.

"I realize that when I met you at the turkey curry buffet, I was unforgivably rude, and wearing a reindeer jumper"

Jen and I spent Fri evening awash in sentimentality, reminiscing about all things Muhlenberg; from the day we became friends at a Guster concert to ball in the Poconos and everything in between. I can't explain exactly why, but for some reason Bridget Jones has become a sort of collegiate touchstone for the 'berg girls and I. Missing your college friends? I'm sure a movie which takes place in London will help. The mere appearance of Colin Firth suddenly stirs up warm fuzzy memories of Pennsylvania winters and frat parties all rolled into one. If one of us was having boy trouble, or a bad day or it was too cold to trek to O'Malleys, we'd inevitably end up en masse in someones room or apt, sipping Sutter Home White Zinfandel and watching Hugh Grant write naughty emails- and it made everything better; if only for an hour and a half. Years later, even though most of us are miles from Allentown, it's nice to know it still has the same effect.

Some Like it Hot.

The woman who was one half of one of the best scenes ever captured on film has died, and I think that's worth noting. Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster rolling around in the surf. Incredible. I'm sure you've all seen the scene, but really, netflix the whole film. I remember watching it in high school film class and thinking it was the most romantic thing I had ever seen. In fact there have even been homages to it on this very blog. I also have a connection to Deborah Kerr because at the ripe old age of 14, my theatre counselor thought it wise for me to prepare her monologue from "Tea and Sympathy" ( in which I was portraying a teacher's wife carrying on a torrid affair with her husband's possibly gay underaged student.) If you're thinking "Leigh, that is bizarre" Then I say to you, look what the Iconis brothers hath wrought . Anyway, I can still recite parts of the monologue.
Thank you Deborah Kerr; beaches will never be the same.

THANK YOU FOR SMOKING

So even following the death of Jack Valenti, the man who sold the motion picture industry down the river to appease the churchy set, the MPAA continues its reign of utter laughable bullshit. It was announced today that SMOKING in movies would be taken into consideration, along with sexual content and violence, for determining an R rating.

I want to throw up and move away. Apparently, this is a nation of god damn fucking babies who can't hear bads words or see CIGARETTES IN FUCKING MOVIES. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA It just makes me so angry. Movie ratings are assinie and should be abolished. When filmmakers are forced to cowtow to the MPAA, sacrificing artistic content for the "joy" of playing in more multiplexes (which a cuddly, whitebread rating allows them to do), something is very, very, VERY wrong.

Not cool, America. Not effin' cool.
An enraged KEVIN.
